MSU NetID

NetID

A Key to Accessing Electronic Resources

New Faculty/Staff

To get started as a new member of the MSU community, you will need to setup your MSU NetID. Your NetID is an electronic identity at MSU and serves as your login to many university computing and networking services.

As a new MSU faculty/staff member, your NetID is auto-generated once your hiring is completed in Human Resources. Requesting a PIN and activating the NetID allows you to create a password for your NetID and find out what NetID has been assigned to you.

For departments hiring academic faculty, there is an optional pre-on-boarding process that may assist with the transition to MSU.  For more information, please review the pre-on-boarding document.

Getting Started

  1. Request a PIN. A PIN is required to activate a NetID for the first time. You can request your PIN one of three ways:

    • Call the MSU ID Office at 517-355-4500 during our business hours (Monday-Friday, 8am-4:45pm EST) and someone from our team will give you your PIN over the phone if your paperwork has been fully processed by HR.
    • Visit the MSU ID Office and someone from our team will give you a document with your PIN on it (please call our office first to make sure your paperwork has been fully processed by HR before visiting our office).
    • Submit an online PIN request (this option typically takes anywhere from 2-5 business days).
  2. Activate your MSU NetID
  3. Register for Multi-Factor Authentication and Self-Service Password Reset.
  4. Visit the Technology Resources for Faculty page or the Technology Resources for Staff page to learn more about connecting your devices to the network and other technology resources available to you.
