MSU NetID

NetID

A Key to Accessing Electronic Resources

New Students

To get started as a new member of the MSU community, you need to set up your MSU NetID. Your NetID is an electronic identity at MSU and serves as your login to many university computing and networking services.

Getting Started

  1. Find your student ID number and your PAN. These numbers were provided to you when you were first admitted to MSU. If you are a student and do not know your PAN, you can find it in your applicant portal. If your PAN is not available to you in the applicant portal, you will receive an email once it is available. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Admissions.

  2. Activate and set up your NetID by using your Student ID and PAN numbers. This will require you to create a password. (Read tips for creating a strong password.)

  3. Register for Multi-Factor Authentication and Self Service Password Reset.

  4. To log in to your MSU email, please visit spartanmail.msu.edu
Note: there may be a delay of up to 15 minutes after NetID activation before Office 365 mail is available for login.

  5. Visit the Technology Resources for New Students page to learn more about connecting your devices to the network and other technology resources available to you.

Activate and set up your NetID using your Student ID number and 4-digit PAN.

MSU students will need to register for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in order to access some MSU systems and can register at the same time  for self-service password reset. This provides the ability to reset your NetID password without looking up your PAN.
